Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Clarice. Now, Clarice was very much in love with her father but, one day her father fell very ill and died. Clarice was sent to live with her aunt and uncle and two cousins on a ranch house just outside of town. This was only the beginning to Clarice’s troubles when she got there Clarice was made to work night and day on the ranch, not only that but, she had to wait hand and foot on her evil cousins and was made to sleep with the lambs.

This continued for several years until one day Clarice tried to run away but, she was caught and taken back both times she tried to escape her prison. Her only friend in the world was a horse named Hannah. One day a messenger from the royal family which ruled over their kingdom sent an invitation for every maiden in the kingdom to come to the ball so that their beloved Prince Hannibal could chose a queen.

As soon as her cousins Jackie and Pauline heard about the invitation they started their long and tedious preparation for the party. Each hoping to win Prince Hannibal’s heart. Clarice sought out her uncle and begged for a chance to go to the ball. Her uncle reluctantly agreed on the condition that she would have to do all of her work before she could go.

Clarice awoke before the sun on the day of the ball and started her chores immediately first going to feed the sheep and horses, then cleaning all the window on their large farm house, then doing the laundry. Now her cousins were very jealous of Clarice’s beauty and didn’t want her to go to the ball because they didn’t want any competition. So they ruined all of Clarice’s hard work by destroying the kitchen and dirtying the living room. Her uncle was so mad that he made Clarice stay home and clean.

Clarice couldn’t take it anymore she ran to the pasture out back and colasped with grief sobbing softly. She couldn’t believe how bad things could get she was so upset she didn’t see the young women appear from thin air behind her.

“Please don’t cry” She said in a soft voice.

“Who….who are you?”

“ I am your fairy Godagent”

“Call me Ardelia”

“Now why don’t you tell me whats wrong dear?

“They wouldn’t at me go to the ball I have to clean, I don’t have anything to wear anyway”

“Why not what you are wearing now dear?”

Clarice looked down and instead of seeing her usual rags and was shocked to find herself wearing a emerald green dress.

“It’s beautiful”

“Now why don’t you dry your eyes and go to that ball”

“All right”

Clarice walked to the carriage being drawn by Hannah and rode off toward the lights of the beautiful city.

As Clarice was riding off she heard Ardelia sweet voice saying that all this magic will only last until midnight. Oh, well I will enjoy myself until then. Clarice arrived at the beautiful castle just in time to see her two evil cousins entering will the grace of an elephant. This thought brought a smile to her face as she climbed the steps and entered the large ballroom. She was appeared by a very graceful man with his dark hair slicked back and a sparkle in his maroon eyes.

“Hello I don’t believe we have met” he said gently kissing her hand.

“I am Prince Lecter. But , you my call me Hannibal”

Clarice was shocked she was standing in front of the the prince. *Breath Clarice Breath!*

“Would you care to dance my dear?”

“Yes , I would Thank you”

With that they were dancing to song after song and chatting the night away. Clarice was the object of jealously to every girl in the ball and everyone was amazed by her beauty and confused because they had never seen her before.

Clarice glanced at the clock and realized it was it was 11:55.

“I am sorry Hannibal but, I have to go”.

With that said Clarice ran off to her carriage and barely made it home in time before the magic wore off. Hannibal stood dumbstruck he didn’t even get her name. He picked up the only clue to her identity a second rate shoe was left behind on the steps obviously forgot in her quick escape.

He went to his father and told him of the woman he wanted to marry and the only clue that was left behind was a shoe. The king told is son that tomorrow morning they would go around to every home in the entire kingdom of Montana to find her.

*************The Next Morning*************

Clarice woke early the next morning and discovered she had been locked in her room. Obviously punishment for last night. She sat by the window and within a few minutes a royal carriage pulled up to their home.

“This is the last stop sir she must live here.”

Hannibal walked up to the door and rang the bell. Her aunt answer and within minutes her cousins were down stairs trying on the shoe. She had to get down there she sat struggling with the door but, her cry went unanswered. In an act of deperation Clarice gathered her strength and kicked the door open just as the prince was about to leave.

“Wait may I try it on?”

“ Why of course have a seat my dear?”

Hannibal slipped the shoe onto her foot at that moment he knew exactly who he wanted to marry.

“What is your name, dear?”

“Clarice will you marry me?”

“Yes, Hannibal I will”

With that they lived Happily everafter
