site. It is possible she could frighten him. He looks away for a moment, and when he returns his gaze she is herself again. His mind grasps for the answer - did she do that? His calculations were meticulous, but she pre-empted them all. Mistaking his movement for dissatisfaction she comes to him, lays a hand on his knee. He sees for a moment a tiny, chubby, familiar hand and blinks the image away. It is as if this place outside time has dissolved the final calculation he could not. Clarice sits before him, but in the mirror he sees Mischa.
